Teacher Spotlight
Mariselle at Machu Picchu last April.
Mariselle Gonzalez
Mariselle Gonzalez is an electrical engineer, educator, and founder of Parallel 10 Education. She has more than 30 years of experience working in engineering, technology, and innovation, including roles with companies such as Motorola, Microchip Technology, and Salesforce.
During her career, Mariselle led more than 100 projects in product development, digital transformation, and technology training across industries including semiconductors, software, higher education, and nonprofits. She holds a degree in Electrical Engineering and an MBA from Arizona State University.
Mariselle has always been passionate about teaching and mentoring students. She has taught Algebra and engineering concepts and has volunteered as an ESL instructor in the community. Through her teaching, she discovered that many students are curious about engineering but rarely get the opportunity to explore the wide range of fields within it. This inspired her to create the Engineering A to Z curriculum, a hands-on program designed to introduce students to many different engineering disciplines while connecting them to real-world applications and careers. Her goal is to help students build confidence in STEM subjects and discover how engineering shapes the world around them.

ACT CORNER
ACT College/University Cost Comparison Worksheet
ACT has published a cost comparison worksheet to help students compare colleges based on important costs like tuition and housing against scholarships, grants, and aid. This is a valuable tool for students (and parents), and it's a free PDF file. The worksheet covers up to three schools, and you can just print an extra copy or two if you have more than three schools to evaluate.
One of our students wrote a post for his mom's blog: Proverbial Homemaker. The post is a review of his experience of taking FundaFunda's AI for Teens class this year.

NotebookLM has graduated from Google Labs beta into a fully featured, stand-alone tool — and it has grown dramatically. In this episode, Meryl walks through all nine features currently available in the Studio panel, explaining how homeschool parents can use them to save time and how students can use them to study more effectively.
In this episode, Meryl explains what Gems are, how they compare to custom GPTs in ChatGPT, and how homeschool parents can use them to create interactive lessons, quizzes, games, and study guides.
In this episode, Meryl is joined by Melissa Muir from Think Curio to discuss an important topic for homeschool families: avoiding tech burnout.
While both Meryl and Melissa love educational technology and use it extensively in their teaching, they recognize the need for balance. With recent studies showing that adults, teens, and even younger children are spending significant hours each day on screens, it is crucial to be intentional about how technology fits into homeschool life.
In this episode, Meryl interviews Melissa Brander from Pocket Homeschool about the many free technology resources available through your local library.
Melissa shares practical ideas and specific tools to help homeschool families take full advantage of what libraries are already offering — often completely free.
